Some basic tips for getting ready to and taking the Test.

1. You cannot start to early playing Glads. Starting in your mid 30’s begin to play some rounds there. Don’t get too excited if you shoot a nice round, Remember at 41 you move back a set of Tee’s and it changes your strategy

2. While practicing there don’t just grind away, start to look for flat spots in fairways to hit too. It is better to hit a 130 yrd shot from a flat area, than to hit a 90 yrd shot with a big uphill stance. 8i’s tend to check up nice while that 90 yrd shot hits high and spins a ton.

3. Survive the par 3’s. These are 4 of the tougher par 3’s in the game at this lvl. PLAY FOR PAR ON THEM. Don’t get cute or fancy, make a good tee shot, hit the green, 2 putt and move on. Birdy on any of these holes is a bonus. Take the time to chart out how much the pin being below your feet affects your distance on the 2 down hill ones. The other is a 230 some yard hole with usually a nasty wind. Get that par and move on. Hole 15 discussed a bit later.

4. A lot of people who struggle with the test seem to always try to make the perfect shot and screw it up. You only need 4 birdies to pass the test. As long as you get good weather on the par 5’s you should be able to birdy them quite easily. Play smart, don’t go for the miracle shot when a par will do.

5. Survive Hole 15. Hole 15 has ended quite a few peoples test. It’s a very difficult par 3 at lower levels and with water in front .. OB on 2 sides this hole can ruin your round in a hurry. I suggest instead of trying to make a great shot at the pin, layup on the left front side of green.. make a good chip if your not on, or a good lag putt if you are.. take your par and run. While playing your practice rounds make sure to get this hole figured out.

6. After you hit lvl 41 this should be your home course. Continue to hit to those flat spots you found while playing practice rounds and nail down your distances. Remember the new lvl brings a new tee box. You will have to hit a longer club now on the par 3’s and effects your stopping power on the greens. Get that sorted out before you take the test.

7. Lastly on test day. DON’T TAKE THE TEST IN A HURRY. There is no time limit, no 3 click swings. Hit good drives, check your stance, wind , green grid and make good 2nd shots. Don’t try to ram in 7 yrd putts. Make a good attempt at making birdy but leave a makeable putt for par.

There are a ton more things to consider, and I am sure more people will add to this post with their tips too. Just make sure once you hit 41 to play 18 holes as often as you can to 1 get your hdcps down, 2 nothing beats practice.

And if you fail your test the 1st attempt, dont let it get you down. You would be suprised how many people have failed the test multiple times
before they passed. Identify what you did wrong, go back practice
some more and you will be fine.

A bunch of good tips and definitely worth looking into. I passed my test on the second try..

My own tip: if you are planning on using zodiacs, you should get used to playing with them.
