Gladshiem walkthrough
Hole 1: A nice Par 4 to start. Good birdie opportunity in all but horrid weather.
Use 9 O'Clock spin and aim at right side of fairway. Hitting 104% will carry ball round corner
towards green. Aim directly at flag as minimal sideways green from right to left. Short
is better as green uphill from front to back.
Hole 2: Short Par 4. Good birdie opportunity.
Similar to Hole 1 but this time drive using 3 O'Clock spin to ensure a curl around the trees.
Varying pin positions require different approaches, ALWAYS check green before approach
shot. If pin at top of upslope us topspin and hit a few % shorter to allow bounce to pin
rather than spin away from pin.
Hole 3: Long Par 5, nice eagle/birdie opportunity especially with forward wind.
9 O'Clock spin better option as it takes left side bunker out of play. If pin tucked behind
bunker use topspin on left of bunker to hop up onto the green. If pin on left of green use
backspin to hole 2nd shot on green. Even if green is missed, simple chip and putt for Par.
Hole 4: Tough Par 3, difficult to birdie.
Green is sloped back to front therefore shot appears to require minimal spin, but..... green
is WAY below you so spin effect is reduced. Therefore FULL backspin is required as ball
bounces further than expected.
Hole 5: Short Par 4, possible birdie chance.
3 O'Clock spin required as bunker is again taken out of play. Watch out for large upslope
areas on each side of fairway. Again green slopes back to front so pitch short with a
little topspin. Long is better as nice flat part of green just past flag.
Hole 6: Short yet tricky Par 4. Nice birdie opprotunity if shot selection right.
Again 3 O'Clock spin to curl round trees and fly over water. High levels can reach green,
JUST, if wind in right direction. Varied pin positions require different chips. Use
similar techniques to other holes. Avoid bunker at all costs.
Hole 7: Long Par 3 with front guarding bunker.
Low level players lag up, especially if on semi-pro test - Par is WAY better than bogey.
If confident aim to bounce on small pairway just past bunker to jump up onto the green.
Backspin is required to stop ball on green regardless.
Hole 8: Very short Par 4 - but watch tree on tee shot.
Use 3 O'Clock spin to avoid tree. Use slight topspin for chip to green as slope back to front.
Backspin will ALWAYS spin ball AWAY from hole.
Hole 9: LONG Par 5, nearly 700 yards for semi-pros.
9 O'Clock spin will avoid ALL trees on drive. Long 2nd shot, get as close to the green as
possible. Should be reachable for all if forward wind. Remember to land ball just short
on the fairway to bounce up onto green to get close to the pin.
Hole 10: Par 4 with trees galore.
Drive as far down fairway as possible. No spin or 3 O'Clock best option. Slight topspin
required or aim slightly longer than you think due to extra upslope on fairway.
Hole 11: Par 3, downhill again so watch for big bounce if hitting green.
If pin short and middle of fairway hit normal shot. If in corners use back left spin for
right pinor back right for left pin to let ball jump along flight path towards hole.
Hole 12: Tree laden Par 4 with water hazard, easy birdie chanc.e
9 O'Clock spin to curl round trees. Relatively flat green so normal shot to pin.
Hole 13: Par 4, birdie chance once again.
3 O'Clock spin to avoid trees. Watch out for large upslope approx 50 yards from green.
Dome shaped green so pitch short with slight topspin but dont go too far as bunker
awaits at back. Be gentle with the putt so return is made if birdie is missed.
Hole 14: Long Par 5. Bunkers right where landing circle appears. Easy birdie chance if
these can be out diven.
If forward wind use 3 O'Clock spin to drive over bunkers. If bad weather or back wind
hit short of bunkers and forget about an eagle chance, concentrate on birdie. If over
bunkers in 1 shoot for green remembering to hit fairway 1st to jump up onto the green.
If landing short of bunkers with tee shot drive towards green avoiding the bunkers.
Chip and putt or 2 putt for birdie.
Hole 15: Horid, horrid, horrid Par 3. Many semi-pro tests are lost here.
Safest option is to either lag up before water or aim left of water. If confident, go for
the pin but beware the consequences. If doing so aim a few yards extra as pin is
above you. (Do this because this is 1 example of where this game ****ing cheats)
Full backspin required especially if forward wind, Very hard to stop ball on green else.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
Hole 16: Nice Par4, easy birdie but possible eagle if high level.
Landing circle around water often so either land short or blast over with forward wind if
possible. 9 O'Clock spin better to add distance as this avoids trees. Normal shot to pin,
avoid bunker at all costs. Possible chip ins available here if minimal wind.
Hole 17: Tough Par 4 because of pin positioning.
Amatures - DO NOT MOVE CURSOR, simply use full 9 O'Clock spin and hit 104%. Ball will JUST
miss ALL trees and land in centre of fairway unless bad weather back wind or forward
wind over 2m/s. Varying sloped green, use topspin or backspin depending on pin position.
Green flat in some areas, try and pick these out if you can.
Hole 18: Nice Par 5, easy eagle/birdie hole.
9 O'Clock spin will avoid ALL trees. 2nd shot as for all Par 5s, pitch short on fairway to
allow jump up onto the green. Or get as close to green as possible if green cannot be
made in 2. Green slopes from back to front so a little topspin required to prevent ball
from spinning back away from hole. Chip and putt or 2 putt for birdie. |
